Upcoming Events
Our 2023-24 season, with CDSQ’s new violinist Sam Weiser, will bring the finest quartet collaborations to our Columbus audiences. It was co-founder and 1st violinist Charles Wetherbee’s and all of our collective wishes to continue to seize the music as a quartet, so we are now moving forward in all directions.
The season includes world premieres by Reza Vali, Akshaya Avril Tucker, Jonathan Cziner and Paul Frucht as part of our "15 for 15" commissioning project, as well as appearances by violist Jacob Shack and cellist Julian Bennett.
We look forward to seeing you in-person at our upcoming events (or join us for free via livestream)!

CDSQ @ The Freer Gallery: World Premiere of “Esfahan” - Music of Reza Vali - Washington, DC
Join us for a special concert in celebration of Persian American composer Reza Vali’s 70th birthday, featuring the world premiere of his piece Esfahan (Calligraphy No. 17), performed by the Carpe Diem String Quartet with accompanying calligraphy animation by designer Omid Nemalhabib.
Described by Corinna da Fonseca-Wolheim of The New York Times as “vibrant and richly expressive,” Vali’s music blends Western classical language with Persian folk songs and idioms into beautiful and textured works. Since 2000, Vali’s music has been based on the Persian modal system, the Dastgâh-Maghâm, exploring the potential of this highly advanced musical system.
