Workshops and Residencies

Teaching and mentoring are central to our mission. Over the years, we have taught and presented masterclasses in locations such as Siena, Italy, Wichita, KS, Ann Arbor, MI, Beijing, China, and Houston, TX. We also have a passion for working with and mentoring young composers. Previous composer workshops have occurred at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana C-GAP Summer Program in Siena, Italy, lead by composer Richard Danielpour, and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA, lead by composer Reza Vali.

CDSQ Exclusives

In addition to traditional masterclasses and residency programs, we offer exclusive workshops that help students navigate other unique aspects of music. We are also happy to work with you to develop programs that are specifically tailored to your program and students.

  • Many young musicians have never encountered the extended techniques often used in contemporary music. From Schoenberg and Webern to Xenakis, Mazzoli, Shaw or Vali, we demystify elements like microtones, non traditional bowing effects, and more.

  • A workshop on how to arrange music and how to use the string quartet to simulate the sound and energy of your favorite popular tunes. We have a rich history of arranging, performing and recording non-classical music, and we love to share this background with young musicians who are interested in different genres of music.

  • Perhaps the most important element of chamber music is communication, especially in the face of various and conflicting musical ideas. We pride ourselves for teaching students how to effectively communicate with each other so that they can fully explore different musical concepts and arrive at a concept that all members of the group can embrace with equal commitment.

  • We love to help groups explore way to diversify their programs! This workshops helps students learn how to add under-represented works, music by diverse voices, and contemporary music in a way that is authentic, respectful, and appropriate for various venues and presenters.
